The observation of wind speed and direction may be made either by visual estimates or by
means of anemometers, wind vanes or anemographs (see notes)

- Some Meteorological Services
do not allow anemometer, wind vane and anemograph
readings for synoptic reporting purposes, this will be indicated by your PMO or
Meteorological Service.
